Sofía Maurette, Ph.D.
Director of Intercultural Ministry
Sofia Maurette is the Director of Intercultural Ministry at the Saint John Paul II National Shrine. As such, she oversees the effective inculturation of the Gospel and of St John Paul II’s teachingsto visitors and pilgrims of diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds, promoting an intercultural approach in its religious and cultural offerings, its services to visitors, and within its staff and employees.
Originally form Argentina, Sofia has an MA from the University of Chicago Divinity School and a PhD in Latin American Literature from the University of Maryland. In her academic work, she specialized in Hispanic Catholicism, doing research on Argentinean and Latin American Catholicism. Sofía has also work extensively with Hispanic Catholic communities in the DC area. She loves the intercultural nature of the Catholic Church and is committed to the representation of its rich cultural diversity, both in her academic research and her ministry work.
She lives in College Park with her husband and her five children.
